"intent to annoy" a federal crime

"Annoying someone via the Internet is now a federal crime.

It's no joke. Last Thursday, President Bush signed into law a prohibition on posting annoying Web messages or sending annoying e-mail messages without disclosing your true identity. "

CNET article

What this really means, that if you leave a comment on my blog anonymously and I find it annoying, you could goto jail for up to 2 years. This is ABSOLUTE B.S.

Please, comment on my blog anonymously. I don't care. The Gov't is FAR over-reaching on this one.

Actual law:... any comment, request, suggestion, proposal, image, or other communication which is obscene, lewd, lascivious, filthy, or indecent, with intent to annoy, abuse, threaten, or harass another person;

abuse, threaten, or harass another person;

Those are pretty key, and you wouldn't find it that absurd if you had a young child recieving abusive, threatening, or harrassing messages on myspace.

Oooh, are those police sirens I hear outside? I'm going to tell them, it's not my fault. You deserved it. :p
